Do you have photography regrets after a wedding over a decision (or decisions) made by your photographer? Maybe the vision between you and your photographer did not align? Or maybe you really needed that extra experience to capture a wedding scene the way you imagined and regret not paying a higher price for that experience? The following topic explores hypothetical situations of working with your photographer to make sure these points are addressed beforehand so there are no post wedding regrets.
Wedding pictures are a timeless experience. Experience costs money. Hiring a photographer that has a price too good to be true should send a red flag. Five years from now those pictures may not feel timeless. On the other end finding a photographer that will not budge on price shows confidence in their business and final product.
Once signed, the photography contract of work is nonnegotiable.
Furthermore, a partial or full down-payment is typically required at the time of contract signing.
(Keep in mind the wedding photography business is typically a business of one employee- the photographer :-). It’s important that the photographer is compensated for the time lost upon event cancellation or even a desire to switch photographers later in the wedding planning, for example).
A good photographer will make sure you understand their contract and will answer any questions raised.
A wedding photographer only gives you a small subset of processed and edited photos with their fee. Any more Photos and photo sizes come at a price.
The photographer needs to be bold and “dive in there“ in situations where there is a potential good shot and the bride and groom are completely surrounded, not easily accessible for Photos.
Maybe the photographer’s specialty is film photos? Or black and white? Or they do well with candid moments? Wedding photography is an art form, you may want a timeless shot with the photographer’s specialty.
Working with your photographer on a complete timeline is the best way to ensure the type of photographs you want are taken at the right place in the right time. It is also a great way to double check that the type of pictures you want are within the contract you signed for or are preparing to sign (for example maybe you want the photographer to be at the wedding for four hours but the amount of desired photographs to be taken would require six hours for the photographer to be at the wedding).
A photographer tends to default to capturing true-to-life images, where at some point too much editing starts turning you and others in the wedding to different people all together! You want to be authentic to yourself- make sure the clothes you wear make you feel beautiful and amazing. Flatter your body type!
If you need a picture quickly after the wedding, you need to let the photographer know in advance. The end of a wedding is just the beginning of a photographer’s work as they will be bringing home 1000+ pictures for post processing work.
